Rosa Elena's husband Mauricio López finds his roots with the Amuzga Indians who are indigenous peoples of the states of Oaxaca and Guerrero.  Mauricio is a talented artist and expresses his culture through pottery.  His magnificent clay masks and figurines adorn the walls of Casa Tucanes.  For a sample of his work, click on the thumbnail images below.

A fantastic day-trip while staying at Casa Tucanes involves a short drive south to Barra de Potosí where Zoe Kayak tours will gladly lead you through the mangrove estuary in search of roseate spoonbills and other exotic bird-life.  Contact Brian at zoe5@aol.com to reserve your trip.  The trip begins in Zihuatanejo with coffee and sweet rolls, and by the time you reach the launch point you will have absorbed information on everything from rare tree species in the grocery store parking lot, to local history, recorded numerous bird species on your life-list, and discussed other wide-ranging topics like the fate of the Cavendish banana.  Click on the thumbnail images below for a tour of the estuary and visit Brian's website at: www.zoekayaktours.com
